Piano recital with works by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski

with students of the class of Prof. Rolf Plagge

The “Young Master Pianists” series is a “permanent guest” at the Bavarian Radio’s Musikzauber Franken and perhaps Bayreuth’s most popular concert series – for decades, master students from national and international music academies have fascinated Bayreuth audiences. Since 1991 Rolf Plagge has been teaching at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg as a university professor in the keyboard instruments department.

He devotes himself increasingly to lesser-known piano concertos and especially to the complete piano works of Karol Szymanowsky.

Karol Szymanowsky (1882-1937) was a Polish composer, university teacher, music publicist and concert artist. He left his mark on Polish musical life and became a role model for the Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski, who continued many of Szymanowski’s elements in his work. Szymanowski was considered the most important representative of the Young Poland group of composers around 1900 and his own compositional output is significantly influenced by the works of Claude Debussy, Max Reger and Alexander Scriabin.
