Thu, 2 June 2022, 8pm: Marialy Pacheco
Whether jazz with a large orchestra, an intimate piano evening, duets with Max Mutzke or Bach’s G minor concerto – Marialy Pacheco sparkles on every stage. This may be due to the open cheerfulness with which the Cuban pianist presents her concerts. But above all it is due to her playing – rhythmic, brisk, gripping, in the next moment quiet and gentle. Always brimming with emotion.
Fri, 3 June 2022, 8 pm: Anke Helfrich Trio
“One of the best German jazz has to offer” is how the award-winning pianist Anke Helfrich is described. She brings brand-new original compositions to Bayreuth for Pijazzo 2022, which, like many of her pieces, are inspired by exciting biographies.
Sat, 4 June 2022, 6.30 pm: Johanna Summer
Familiar, yet always new: if you look into a kaleidoscope, you see the same colourful pearls in constantly changing variations. When Johanna Summer takes on pieces by Robert Schumann, it is the same – under the fingers of the young jazz pianist, everything appears as if freshly filtered. Concentrated and absorbed, Johanna Summer merges with the piano and captivates the audience with unusual intensity.
Sat, 4 June 2022, 9 pm: Binder Quartet
What could be better than greeting old friends you haven’t seen for a long time? Károly Binder brings his new quartet from Budapest and his “Flower Soul”. What’s behind it? A real spring CD: dancing through May, giving Beethoven an orange crown and rocking out at sunset.
Sun, 5 June 2022, 8 pm: Emile Parisien Sextet | LOUISE feat. Theo Croker
Inspired by the works of sculptor Louise Bourgeois, one of Europe’s best-known saxophonists gathers the cream of international jazz around him, including the hottest trumpeter around. Freedom and beauty is the motto of the programme, in which stormy energy coexists quite harmoniously and naturally with a very soft, intense side.
