The great Chilean pianist has been a household name in the professional world for almost 70 years. In 1955, she was awarded the Dinu Lipatti Prize in London and in 1963, she won the International ARD Music Competition in Munich – since then, she has performed all over the world, but rarely in Germany.
She has her own festival in Switzerland, is active with unrestrained vitality and – hard to believe – only comes to Bayreuth for the first time in concert at the age of 86. The programme is as classical as it is demanding – because of Corona, the playing time has been shortened to a maximum of 70 minutes, which unceremoniously led the grande dame of piano playing to present two DIFFERENT programmes.
She was born in Santiago de Chile and still lives there. At the same time, she is a citizen of the world, made her orchestral debut with Erich Kleiber and is a student of Claudio Aarau – in short, one of the greats of the piano world.
