Let yourself be guided to unfamiliar and new sound spheres. The Chopin Festival Hamburg is the first and only festival that sends the sound worlds of modern and historical grand pianos into the competition. A Steingraeber & Söhne grand piano with Mozart rail and Sordino will take part!

From 20 June until 25 June 2019, brilliant artists whose interpretation of the unique instruments with distinctive characteristics from different epochs is co-designed in the representative rooms of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg as well as in the Hamburger Kunsthalle. In contrast to the masters of the 19th century, modern grand pianos, among them Steingraeber, will perform side by side. You may decide – historic or modern? On five evenings and in five master classes, you have the opportunity to form a judgment together with the artists and to decide for which instrument of which era your heart beats.

Andreas Staier will compare the Steingraeber grand piano against a historical grand piano on 24 June 2019 and will play J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, and F. Schubert. He is much more than a virtuoso representative of so-called historical performance practice. Rather, one could describe him as a passionate sound seeker. Since 1986, Andreas Staier has turned his attention to free-lance soloists and has gained a worldwide reputation as a harpsichord and fortepiano soloist.
