When in the first part of a piano recital Mozart’s C minor Fantasia consistently leads to Beethoven’s op. 110 and Schubert fills the “gap” …. then, in the second part, this almost inevitably leads to Franz Liszt.

That the German-Latvian pianist and Würzburg professor presents “Italy” – the entire second book of the Années de Pèlerinages – this is truly exciting, unusual and promises a great piano recital which then consistently ends with the Dante Sonata (“Après une lecture de Dante” – Fantasia quasi Sonata), more or less as a counterpart to Beethoven’s great sonata in the first part.

The Pianist

Born in Riga (Latvia), Alexei Outekhin got his first piano lessons at the highly gifted music school “Medinja”; After moving to Germany (1995), he continued his musical education at the Berufsfachschule für Musik in Sulzbach-Rosenberg and then at the Musikhochschule, Würzburg with Prof. András Hamary. In the series “Young master pianists” he joined his fellow students in the remarkable project (All three volumes of the Années de Pèlerinages one evening). Alexej Outekhin has been teaching at the University of Music Würzburg since 2013.
